hmm... maybe a fender squire.
a decent starter bass. they arent too expensive and they have a decent sound to them.
i could list off about a dozen brandnames, but i wont waste your time. there are lots of good basses, but i would say the Squire is a decent place to start.

I'll ask my brother, he plays bass. Right now he has a DeArmond.

Fender Jazz Bass.
If your serious about learning then start with something good that you would want to play for a long time.
It will be nicer to play, and sound better, which in turn will make learning much easier. I started on some random no name bass and was blown away when I finally coughed up the cash for a Fender Jazz Bass. It was like night and day.

yeah, i was looking into that fender and their amps.
someone also mentioned Ibanez as another good brand.
but i'm just starting out and dont want to cough up a lot of cash at this time.
thanks for the advice, anymore advice will be welcomed.

just don't buy anything too cheap, it will sound like crap and if the strings are too far from the fretboard you will have a helluva time learning. Better to have a decent instrument so that you don't get discouraged.

I have a Cort S Series - playing it through a Yorkville 200 Bass amp. I've been able to get a pretty full sound with the combo.

This dude makes decent basses -

Just make sure that the gills are still pink and that when you poke your finger into the side of it that it bounces right back.

I'll second the Ibanez - I played one for about an hour when I broke a string at a show - it looked and sounded tough. I loved it..... must go make more money.

heheh, dobolina you silly boy.
i agree with these guys about not geting a cheap ass bass. but i dont know that i would recommend going out and getting a tobias kb either (that is a realy good one fyi)
just remember that you can always trade your starter back in and get something nicer if youlike it. but if you go all out and dont like it, then youll have a hard time getting your money back.
the fender jazz bass is not a bad idea either, but id say more than anything, take a friend that plays bass or guitar and let em feel the ones in your pricerange (if you trust them) and thatll give you a pretty damned good idea.
let us know what you decide to get! =)

you could get one from a pawn shop too, just make sure the neck is straight as an arrow.

Yeah, the GSR 200 is a good bass, if you like that sound that is. The brighter sounding basses are easier to train you ear with.

and maybe later down the line i'll move up haha.but my friend will be teching here and there, but for the most part i'm just gonna try to learn on my own.

Whatever you do, go to a music store and play with different instruments. It's really important when you're learning that the bass fits. If the neck is too thick, you will suffer more.
Yamaha is a decent starter bass.
I have a 68 Fender precision with an Ampeg amp. woohoo...its embarrassing how poorly I play such a beautiful instrument.
