Fender Jazz Bass.
If your serious about learning then start with something good that you would want to play for a long time.
It will be nicer to play, and sound better, which in turn will make learning much easier. I started on some random no name bass and was blown away when I finally coughed up the cash for a Fender Jazz Bass. It was like night and day.
