I'm leaving tomorrow on a journey back to California from Boston. Choosing my route now (yeah i know it's a little late).
What/Where are the top 3 places/landmarks/balls of yarn you would pick as the most amazing things to see in the states. The only hitch is that I have to stop off in Portland so anything in SW USA would be kinda out of the question.

try and time your trip so that around 3 or 4 am you're out in the middle of the desert. pull over just before sunrise and watch it. amazing.
then put your car in drive and haul muthafukin ass until the sun goes down again and then stop and watch it again. ya know... like in that nissan commercial.

Kona, what are the roads like over near chicago, Im driving a big ass penske truck with a car attatched to the back, I'd like to stay the hell out of the snow.
Any suggestions on places to see on that trip TF? I've been all over the west because I lived there for a great portion of my life, I would like to see a few of those cheesy national monuments and what not, any worthwhile??? And I'll definitely be taking my time, already got a 1/2+ oz of green and some extras :)

cruise by seattle and we'll split a pitcher of delicious 9.5% beer at the stumbling monk, then crawl over to harborview park/no-mans-land and check out the cityscape.

Good luck avoiding snow! I travelled from Boston to Seattle around this time of year a few years ago and going over the Cascades in a snow storm is no fun in a tiny car...I would have had heart failure in a big ole truck.
Go to Colorodo!! Las Vegas. Cut over to Northern CA and then up to Portland.

hahaha.
on the way over here i got stuck in a hellish rain storm in Louisiana, just about had heart failure. If I see snow start to fall I'm pulling over, smoking a few bowls, turning on my lantern and blasting the boombox until it stops. So I've seen lots in the SW carlsbad caverns, petrified forest, grand canyon, tons in CA, been to Las Vegas, Denver, Golden, and Colorado Springs, and surronding areas, a bit in Wyoming, and did some stuff in New Mexico when I was a bit younger but all I can remember is the adobe houses and Taos.
Is there really not much else to do but the SW? right now I'm thinking of trying to go to Yellowstone for a bit of snowmobilling around. Stopping off in NYC to see what I need to see there, maybe down into TN to see graceland and memphis, On the way there I was thinking of stoping off in Philadelphia, but in between Philly and TN doesn't seem like there is much. Maybe go to St Louis. Somebody has to have a few things they thought were amazing?

Well, I'm kind of biased, but NYC seems to be obvious. Is New Orleans out of the question? That's another essential place. I guess I would pick Chicago too. So, that's three.
