How about some films about the "dark underbelly" of Europe? This peculiar obsession with failings of the United States only betrays a lack of cultual confidence on the part of Europeans who think this way. So if you want American culture "out of your head" stop fucking talking about it. Create something original and/or provacotive about your own experience and society.
And by the way, American film, painting and literature are full of critical self-examination and introspection. The difference is Europeans revel in existenial dispair because for them there is nothing left to believe in. Americans, perhaps naively depending on your point of view, still hold unto Judeo-Christian belief systems that most Europeans now hold in contempt. Theirs is naturally a somewhat more balanced dipiction of life than European nihilism. American art has a nihilistic elements but it is nihilism without an abyss. The current so-called anti-American debate is, in short, really a question of self-esteem and identity.
