Ok Ok America sucks. Can you europeans get over it already? As americans, we know it sucks over here. Geesh, dont you have your own problems?

I agree... it's also not fair to generalize like this.
But this is how the rest of the world fights back against the US I guess...all these countries wouldent dare political or military action, they use other means as a way to fight through propaganda. It happens all over. Doesn't make it right tho.

Anti-americanism is so... passe. These filmmakers are trash. No originality. If these films would have come out 2-4 years ago they would have been relevant, now they are just jumping on the bandwagon.

lets not go there again

I have to agree with Von Tier, "America is kind of sitting on the world." I've never been there but I feel like I know so much about this country that I hope I never have to go.
USA outta my brain.

I think for many Europeans, the main problem with the US is the perceived lack of introspection.
Not sure how true this actually is, the few Americans I have met have been intelligent and well aware of their countries' socio-economic problems, and could offer suggestions on what could be done to improve things.
Amazing what you can find when you talk to people?

you stupid fucking people
what an absolute none-story story.
complete twisted editorialising by a "reuters" journalist. Really? Reutars wrote that pointless piece of journalism?
lol
oh yeah, the Euro's hate Americans.
That's the real cliche hear. Your (Americans) feeling of rejection by Europe. Get over THAT.

Trouble is Kuz - people take notice of it - so it's hard to dismiss it as nonsense...
It's convenient to believe what you read, it's easy, you don't even have to think about it - especially when it's in an idiot-proof tabloid format.
Worrying...

I would actually suggest you watch one of the docs being shown. "The Power of Nightmares" is a fantastic piece of film making, shame it won't be shown in the states.
In terms of being anti-american, I don't think anyone here is. A lot of people are anti-american Government though.. it's a bit different.
- stem0
Agree soda - It's getting fucked over by those in power.
So how are we any different?

Lars Von Triers makes a film about black america
"hey stop picking on the USA!"
An American director makes a film about one of America's most celebrated cultural icon
"hey show a more up lifting story! You Euro's are picking on us!"
Jeez, use a brain cell people. What do you want? Films about how happy and smiley and pretty all the girls in Beverley Hills 90210 are?
Oh yeah, there MUST be a conspiracy!
Some documentary (and very powerful and thoughprovoking one) on the war on terror - which the world has every right to make since it's a global war, but again
"aha! another film making us look not like the greatest nation in the world!"
Mmmm, why does that journalist not mention the masess of films at cannes that have nothing to do with the States? Looks like he has a bee in his bonnet, mr Eric Kirchbaum. Still bitter that Fahrenheit 9/11 got the Palm D'or.
Seriously, get over urselves.

anti - 'American who thinks
anti - American Policies equals anti - America'
- designerror0
It's the sequel to Dogville which i enjoy very much, can't wait to see this .
Lars von Trier always makes a good movie regradless of the subject
- soda0
that's a good point Kuz. Hollywood has been making reversionist movies for years about the rest of the world...
- paraselene0
*yawn
remember a lil' thing call the goalie's anxiety at the penalty kick?
von trier is hardly the first, nor the second, and most certainly not the last...
- Kuz0
seriously tho, so what if he makes a film about black america?
dammit, i've a feeling he stole my idea. I had a whole plan to make a film about "nigger", set in early 20th century America with white people riding niggers to work, make it propa like in yo face.
why start crying about it as anti-americanism?
total insecurity of some people.
