Verdict with Fiat: expensive repair (timing belt kit, water pump, cylinder head and valves...) 1.5k.

Thinking about it rationally, the belt broke because it was due for replacement, and from stretching it, it wore out. So, in the end, it will be an additional €600 repair on top of what I should have done a couple of months ago.

Following Shellie's post, I've been keeping a close eye on my finances for years, I try to avoid debt, and a new car is a huge expense these days. It's going to have to last another 5 years. It's already 25, but it serves its purpose perfectly.

We live in a small town and we need that second car, that's all.

I'm going to start going to church on Sundays and pray for it ;) lol.

    • Anyway, signed for a new project I was not expecting, extra work, but it's going to pay this bill ¯\_(ツ)_/¯OBBTKN

    • i think in most cars if the timing belt goes - you are looking at thousands.. sometimes a write-off - small silver lining that you still have working car :)dee-dubs
    • Cars are a terrible investment. Mine is a 73 beetle held together with rubber bands. I smell like petrol all the time. But, really, who am i trying to impress??shellie
    • Ride that car til the wherls fall off. Just think, if you bought a new one now, or just fixed the one you have now, both will be considered old in 5 years!shellie
