Back in 2023, a spokesperson for Gov. Tim Walz said he wouldn’t take a salary increase because he appointed the bipartisan council that recommended the pay bumps for top state officials and judges, which he’d be signing into law.
Walz decided the new pay level would kick in for the next person to hold his position, but he wouldn’t be taking it. His salary would have increased by approx $22k over two years, from roughly $128k to $150k.
