I have called my computer ‘my machine’ for years. Laptop, desktop, doesn’t matter. My machine.

    A. Where did I pick this up?
    2. Does anyone else do this?

My wife has given me grief about this for a while now. She said I sound like an old timer who has never seen a computer before.

Your laptop is a computing machine, and the "computer" is the person whose job they replaced.
