I have yet to determine how this happened.
One of my oldest domains has been stolen (via GoDaddy).

    So far I have confirmed...

    1. That the domain was set to auto-renew since 2000 and has been billed consistently ever since.

    2. Somehow auto-renew was turned off and the domain was allowed to expire.

    3. I received none of the 4 emails stating that renewal is pending.

    4. The domain has been sold at auction.

    5. They were more than happy to show me attempts to send me emails to my gmail address, but when pressed for IP addresses of logins to my account, that information was not available.

    6. The only solution I have been offered is to use a domain broker service in an attempt to buy it back.

    7. The new "owner" is in Hong Kong.

    Be careful out there kids.

    • HEEEY! you're alive
      is it a .com domain?
      sted
    • maybe your godaddy account was hacked at some point?
this happened in months/year not in the last 1-2 months?
      sted
    • They had a mass-compromise last year. Somebody could have been sitting on your data for a while and finally sold it.garbage
    • my presumption as well, sted. which is why i requested the IP addresses of those who accessed my account... to no availimbecile
    • and yes, a 2 word, 10 letter .comimbecile
    • there are 2 things that can help you out:
      Renewal / Redemption Grace Period
Hacking/Data breach must be disclosed to clients
      sted
    • these are both ways to get your domain back but they are painful.
I have experience in both situations the second one takes more than a year.
      sted
