    Advice please.

If a boss / supervisor has not yet given an employee their performance review and it is a month past the deadline, even though the employee reminded them three weeks ago that the supervisor had not done it yet, what is the correct way to approach the problem?

    - Employee could certainly remind the supervisor - AGAIN - that their review has not been completed. However, employee feels awkward to have to remind their own boss to fulfill a necessary part of their job.
    - Employee could go to HR, who owns the performance review process, to ask why they have not yet had their review, but risks relationship with their boss if going to HR is seen as complaining about the situation or avoiding a direct line of communication to their own boss.
    - Employee could go to company president, who employee knows well and knows the president is aware of employee's career goals, and inquire as to why they feel left out of the process, but also risk problems from not going directly to their own boss about it.

Any thoughts? Employee's self evaluation - the essence of the review process - contains important commentary about an anticipated promotion, and clarity on role and title level. Employee is stressed knowing that there are important conversations to be had, but feels their own boss is being negligent in completing a critical part of their role in the management of an employee.

    • I'd send an email with a meeting time and date (about a week away) and say 'I thought i'd pop something in the diary as i'm keen to discuss opportunities toMorning_star

    • bro, don't tattle on your boss, or go to the president. for fuck's sake calm down.canoe
    • Stop showing up for work all of a sudden. You'll still get maybe 1-2 months of salary until they realise you're gone and terminate the contract

    • I think canoe has got this one right. Maybe the boss is discussing just where they want you with his superiors? Just keep being awesome. Do not escalate.monNom
    • I think just talk to your boss directly again, and keep reminding. You can go to HR, and they should make it possible so that it never looked like you tattling.monospaced
    • If HR owns the process, they should be letting your boss know he's behind, so it's not unheard of to talk to them. Your boss won't know it's you, likelymonospaced
    • My wife actually just went through this kind of thing recently — very similar but maybe worse — and ended up with a salary review and a 10% raise. :)monospaced
    • Set up a meeting with the subject being year end review. :)stoplying
    • "Boss, can we have my review soon? If you're too busy I can go to HR & see if they can help". Passive aggresive behaviour FTW.BusterBoy
