I bought one specifically for health reasons, cast iron pans are the safest thing for cooking. Almost all cookware releases chemicals and carcinogenic molecules when heated.
If you are still using Tefflon, please stop as soon as possible. These things are carcinogenic.
The only thing to watch with cast iron is your consumption of iron, you can overdose on iron if you cook in it everyday and if you eat lots of food with iron at the same time.
- I just realized how much that I have been cooking during the pandemic with a Teflon pan. Purchasing an Iron pan this week.utopian
- If you're worried about too much iron iron in your system (hemochromatosis) you can try drinking tea or coffee which will inihibit your iron intake.zarkonite
- We switched to those nonstick rock pan things a few years ago, but that's probably just a different type of cancer...i_monk
- Are you saying that steel pans release chemicals and carcinogenics too? Hmmm...monospaced
- utopian, you have to be burning your food to release the chemical at over 570F for hours on end.imbecile
- so if you're an idiot, like our poster here, it should be a concern. however, when used properly, teflon is inert and will pass through a human unchanged.imbecile
- @mono Cheap stainless pan could be bad, yes. Google it.Bennn
- And yes, just a quick search on the matter on Google will lead you to many articles on why Tefflon and other cookware can be badBennn
- What is a cheap steel pan? You’re crazy. If anything a steel pan is better because it doesn’t leech fucking iron rust into my food. Jesus.monospaced
- Yes, learn to cook on an uncoated steel or iron pan like people have done for 100's of years. Teflon is shit.ben_
- Yup, stay away from teflon.formed
- Just going to correct some of the misinformation here. Modern, well-made nonstick pans are perfectly safe. They're not made for high heat or sharp utensils.garbage
- Have an egg pan, a cast iron set, and some good steel pans. They all have their place.garbage
- My stainless steel All-Clad pans are far superior to any non-stick pan that has ever existed, and are better for eggs. Non-stick pans make no sense to me.monospaced
- lol mono if we're dick-wagging I'm a Mauviel Man, Woll Diamond Plus for nonstick, and my grandmother's cast irons for the rest.garbage
- We do need to revive whatever latent cooking threads here, I'm curious as to what you people get up to in the kitchen.garbage
- @garbage, yeah but when you know its made of carcinogenic stuff, do you really want to take the chance? and people keep them too many years before changing themBennn
- I know modern non-stick are not toxic, but they're still shit. You have to baby them (as you described) and once they are scratched they're done.ben_
- Modern teflon is safe if you use it as intended. No metal implements and keep the heat at medium (~300 degrees). It's not something you saute in..garbage
- ..but they do have their uses. But throw them out immediately if some moron forks it or uses it on high.garbage
- If you can’t use a metal instrument on it or use it on high heat it is a useless piece garbage, to me, not a cooking panmonospaced
- If you’re buying it because of non stick you’re just paying for hassle, inconvenience and a huge lie that steel pans are sticky.monospaced
