I finally have an interview tomorrow, for the first time in months. Client-side/internal agency gig, international CD for a food box delivery service based in Berlin (but serving something like 8 markets worldwide).

One of the tasks will be to do their TVCs, so I had a look at the only one they've ever done on YT (to see what I could potentially be dealing with, here), and it's completely indistinguishable from their biggest competitor's spots.

I really hope they don't ask me if I've seen it, because I'd be too afraid of going un-filtered/rogue and saying, 'Yeah, and it fucking sucks.'

    • Maybe you should say that and then ask for more moneyoey_oey
    • Try to say "I've seen it and here's why it's not working for you..." and give 3 main bullet points of why it's not working and how you'd do better at it.shapesalad
    • "Yes, of course I've seen them. I'd love to talk about how you arrived at these spots and if you think they're successful. Frankly, I see a lot of room for imprnb
    • ovement. There are some easy wins here, definitely, and also I think some areas we can think about for long term success in this area."nb
    • Have you considered it may actually be working for them? Blending in is a strategy.i_monk
    • "It's a 1st step, and I'm sure the cie has learned a lot by making and putting this TVC out. The next step is to build a campaign that stands out etc"spl33nidoru
    • You're applying for International CD, they know they need one, so comfort that need with your confidence and ambitions for them. Just be polite!spl33nidoru
    • Sadly, with a generalised lack of vision, most brands do what others do, thinking it can't be wrong. Remind them of the purpose of advertising.spl33nidoru
    • the play is to say why it sucks...and how it wouldn't suck...and then convince them to put all those $$$ in your hands.uan
    • but being polite is probably the better move. don't listen to me.uan
    • Thanks for the advice, fellas. It's easy to forget that people hire people for knowledge and expertise, and not cos they're an arse-kisser during the interview.Continuity
    • Yeah they hire you for what they can't already do.
      Here's some inspiration!

    • how'd it go?shellie
    • Meh, not my best performance, if I'm honest. I don't think I was detailed enough in my answers for the marketing director's liking.Continuity
    • On the other hand, she did schedule a 15 min follow up an hour and a half later, because I mentioned I still had questions to ask, so who knows.Continuity
