    We put the family dog, Sammy, down yesterday afternoon. I thought he could maybe hang on a little longer or maybe turn it around but things went south quick.

    I haven't heard my mom cry like that since my dad died. It was awful. I told her to be strong for the other two pups. Sammy had 14 good years, and he was in pain. He needed a vacation and it was time for us to send him off to rest. She's heartbroken. I haven't really had a chance to process it.

    He was very much connected to the memory of my late father. Sammy's ashes will live next to his on the memory table in the office at my mom's house. Two pals reunited. :'(
