So a bit of info for those of us who are unemployed and looking for new jobs:

Had a chat with a headhunter of my acquaintance in Berlin, who told me that the market is paused right now, and that budgets and new hires are being moved to summer/autumn, more likely on the autumn end of the range.

This is info for Germany, mind you, but I expect it would be the same in most other countries.

Thankfully, the unemployment office informed me this morning my benefits are being extended by three months as part of the Corona relief package.

Strap in, kids, it's going to be a rough ride.

    • All the best to you, I hope some form of normality returns soon. Be thankful your country has a functioning government.fadein11
    • It's worrying.shapesalad
    • Worrying, yes. But largely out of our control. Only thing to be done is to keep sending CVs, keep connecting with the relevant people on LinkedIn.Continuity
    • LinkedIn is an alternate universe, and it's bonkers. Today I applied to a position there and received a mail with a link to an automated process...sr_rosa
    • ...with seven different parts that requires answering questionnaires, sending audios, and an assignment with a warning that will take me at least three hours.sr_rosa
    • Yeah, I used to be a proud 1099 and had a weird chip on my shoulder for turning down in-house editor positions. Now I'm just in the house.garbage
    • Same in the US, according to different sources I've talked to and the fact that I'm basically seeing automated reset reposts of the same six jobs over-and-over.evilpeacock
    • Been doing small contract work via existing network connection, and those projects are all slimmed budgets from what was originally intended.evilpeacock
    • yeah all the best to you and anyone who lost their jobs in this so far. not to be negative but many more to come.ben_
    • ^ Yup. And get used to clients not coming back. Whatever, I didn't plan on retirement in the first place.garbage

    • LinkedIn sure, but in the US recruiters have very little recruiting to do right now. I'm echoing what I was told by a recruiter.evilpeacock
    • Did they make you upload your CV and have you type in the same information into separate fields? I will never understand this.Maaku
    • I've done a few of those upload, then re-type everything again applications. And I have a blessed by recruiter experts "ATS-friendly" resume.evilpeacock

    • It was something to be expected on any creative front. Compare it to the webdesigner dog meme, and apply it to photographers, editors, writers, etc.garbage
    • @psued pretend your a recruiter, go into LinkedIn search for your role/title that comes up first. These profiles are optimized, try to fig out ur key words.robotron3k
    • Add then to your profile, when headhunters search, you will pop close to top. There are many vids and articles how to do this.robotron3k
