I miss my grandad who was a good father, husband, grandfather, and achieved enormous things in his profession.
Among many good qualities he was a loyal and committed christian saying a table blessing at every meal, while spent hours watching David Attenborough with me. Which I did not even understand at the time to what extent it showed against his views, but never tried to force his faith on me.
Most of my beloved memories are his sightseeing recordings he made before we went off for travel to various European countries. These cassettes played in the radio of his yellow Lada were like a read out Wikipedia, what opened the right always at the right time making the landscape we are going through more interesting.
He taught me how to be a critical thinker. How to always filter the conclusions and thoughts of my own experiences, and compare these with the opinions of other people.
And most importantly: how to look into and think about the future.I do not believe that the a conclusion created by others eternal and to be followed in all cases, but he had an advice which remained dominant throughout my life: Before you sleep in, review everything you did on that day. And if something feels bad, think about and execute plans, to make it right as soon as possible.
This helps to sleep peacefully to this day, and feel relaxed while looking into the mirror at the morning, knowing I didn’t have to regret anything. And if, however, that day has always a greater purpose than the previous ones.
These things had a much greater impact on me than any thought or advice quoted by a recognized person.
