@Bennn build yourself. Start setting a budget (I recommend something between 1k-1.5k) and base it off the best CPU that fits your budget. Use pcpartpicker.com for compatibility and parts list.

Assuming you need it for photo, video and simple rendering I'd start with the AMD Ryzen 7 2700X CPU (8 Cores).

    Here is what you need:
    - CPU (+ I recommend all-in-one watercooling block. No hazzle, super silent)
    - Mainboard with fitting socket (AM4 for this CPU)
    - 4x 8 RAM, 3200mhz+
    - SSD (M.2, buy it instead of SATA)
    - Power Supply (Don't cheap out!)
    - GPU (nVidia if you need Cuda, AMD is cool too if not. I recommend a GTX 1050 for non-gamers)
    - A case you like. Everything fits with parts younger than 2010.
    - A set of silent fans (120mm or what your case of choice has)
    - Windows License

    Pros:
    - Warranty on every single part, esp. with quality brands
    - You know your system
    - Way cheaper

    Cons:
    - You have to build it yourself, but It's like Lego

    • thanks mekk. I never done this before.. do i need to stick the CPU with some glue or somthing? that look complicated and trickyBennn
    • whats 'Cuda' ?Bennn
    • If you don't know Cuda, you don't need it.mekk
    • CPU's have some handle that holds it in place. There is a small drop of thermal paste that needs to be applied between the cooler and the CPU.mekk
    • Use Linus Tech Tips YouTube channel, they have a ton of building guides and part lists for every budget and usemekk
    • What system would you biuld for photo editing? Under 2,000$CADBennn
    • I don't know Canada pricing but I'd build pretty much what I wrote. 16GB RAM is enough, you can still upgrade anytime you want. Linus is Canadian :-)mekk

    • thanks mekkBennn
    • One tip. Don't underestimate how to place the cpu in the socket and apply thermal paste. Watch some videos.err

    • Specially the AMD Ryzen CPUs they can feel like you are going to break it. but if you are sure its placed right you wont have to worry.err
    • thats the tricky part i'm not sure I want to try... sticking the CPU..Bennn
    • @benn. For photo editting, just get the newest dell xps tower. They go on sale all the time, then get a dell monitor with premiercolor for aRGB workflow. ~$2kmonNom
    • how much does a Windows license run these days?monospaced
    • @mono around 110$ i thinkBennn
    • @monNom, i'll check them, thats what I own atm a Dell XPS tower from 5 years ago. Those are huge tho..Bennn
    • Big is good. Heat is the enemy of electronics, so big with proper ventilation will live way longer.monNom
    • @Bennn its not hard just don't go and wing it with out spending 2 mins on youtube first.err
