The "blunder" was definitely staged. Why?

    1. the Oscars have been hurting, so need to create new buzz
    2. learned from Harvey that this kind of "mishap" works
    3. wanted to create major chatter about the Oscars on social media
    4. the Academy had to fix their "all white" racist nominations from last year by having a film about a black gayman win best picture
    5. this "mistake" will help BOTH "La La Land" and "Moonlight" generate more $$$
    6. give QBN something to talk about on Monday

    • hmm. I can see all that as very possibly true.Krassy
    • I guarantee it wasn't staged.monospaced
    • 100% staged. I guarantee you are absolutely clueless and just like most sheep falling for it. LMAO!chukkaphob
    • last one is certain.Beeswax
    • I know the person who handed the envelope over. It was a mistake, I guarantee it.monospaced
    • Also, Santa Claus is real and unicorns exist. Guaranteed.chukkaphob
    • I am much more clued in to the situation than you could ever imagine, actually.monospaced
    • ^ delusions of grandeur much? guaranteed. LOL!chukkaphob
    • I get it. You're certain because of stuff you read on the internet, but my first-hand knowledge is what, me being a "sheep" falling for conspiracy?monospaced
    • delusions of grandeur? how so?monospaced
    • mono, you bore me, dude! it's tiresome, no-fun, and exhausting conversing with you. haha! I'm done responding to your dull statements. Go have the last word.chukkaphob
    • I work with the people and company involved, closely. That's what I do.monospaced
    • What's boring and dull are conspiracy theories (aka, fake news) that people, who have no knowledge of the situation, fabricate.monospaced
    • damn, mono... I'd hate to be your friend this morning... talk about a 'fuck up' :(PonyBoy
    • It's a partner where I work, and they apologized for the mistake, publicly. This mistake benefits nobody, especially the firm who made it.monospaced
    • Either way, the Oscars are still boring as hell.garbage
    • La La Land is the new Hilary.MrT
    • I'm with mono. Also know one of the guys working on projections. It was human error.sea_sea
    • @sea_sea and you think mono's "friend" who's one of that "the people and company involved" would know about it? c'mon now. This had to be a hush-hush operation.chukkaphob
    • obviously very few were in the know about it. Projections guys and such had no clue it'll happen.chukkaphob
    • I never said friend. I work at pwc who counts the ballots and has for 83 years. The partner who handed the wrong envelope made a mistake.monospaced
    • There's no way the academy could have intended that mistake to happen without the partner being in on it, and that's a serious accusation.monospaced
    • The mistake has been acknowledged and apology has been given.monospaced
    • so many people fall for this kind of crap: wardrobe malfunctions, "edgy" "spontaneous" make-out "surprise" kisses, announcement mistakes, etc.chukkaphob
    • it's all scripted and designed to create headlines and buzz.chukkaphob
    • NO WAY such major productions would allow for such huge "mistakes" to take place, unless it was all planned and part of the show.chukkaphob
    • and don't forget this is the Academy. Hollywood. Where trickery, acting out scripts. entertainment, creative deception, and "plot twists" are THE artform! haha!chukkaphob
    • and just like in a hollywood movie, the "mistake" happens at the end and during the most important award. Again: what a fucking plot twist! LMAO!chukkaphob
    • Just a thought.. Not everything that goes wrong is a conspiracy.sea_sea

    • If true, what's the benefit for PWC?fruitsalad
    • ^ they've had the biz for 83 years... do they want it next year? play ball, pencil headsGnash
    • Important.set
    • @fruitsalad well, they're trying to save a sinking ship (the traditional Hollywood movie industry) where money is made at the box office.chukkaphob
    • it's a dying industry just like the music industry collapsed after napster and with sharing services. The film industry is next.chukkaphob
    • More and more people are watching movies on demand and streamed and produced by the likes of Netflix.chukkaphob
    • The Academy and PWC are a dying dinosaur desperate for attention and buzz. That's where this "trick" they pulled off last night at the Oscars comes into play.chukkaphob
    • 70% of movie goers hadn't even heard of the film "Moonlight" until this "mistake" happened. Guess who'll be going to watch "Moonlight" AND "La La Land" now...chukkaphob
    • ...because of this "mistake." Millions of viewers will. So this "mistake" is calculated to generate major buzz (just like it did) AND major $, just like it willchukkaphob

    • lol okaymonospaced
    • agree w/ chukka here.bklyndroobeki
    • haha holy shit... chukka step away from the computer and take in some fresh air...inteliboy
    • Yup, chukka makes some valid points.Krassy
    • The points aren't valid because it wasn't intentional. The very idea makes no sense anyway. No way pwc would jeopardize the relationship intentionally.monospaced
    • @chukka, you seem to be confusing the Academy and PwC as if they were the same company. They aren't.monospaced
    • is PwC doing stuffs for the academy?pango
    • they count the votes, pangoGnash
    • Correct.monospaced
    • With movies gradually getting worse each year, the fuck up was great publicity, they should do it every year.Dillinger
    • Why do you think movies are getting worse every year? I think we've had some amazing treats over the years. Moonlight was a great win tooIanbolton
    • Maybe your life is getting worse every year?!Ianbolton
    • Ant-man was a outright masterpieceset
