    Imagine for a sec one day this type of technology becomes so commonplace and the food purchase patterns each individual makes is logged under the guise of convenience... justified as a simple Netflix 'because you watched' feature presented in the grocery aisle...

    Two things come to mind, the sort of hyper-targeted rfid-like advertising opportunities available in these controlled environments (ie Minority Report)...

    And i wonder how valuable such real-time, logged meta data related to someone's personal 'health choices' would be to the big health insurance providers... eat right? enjoy a healthier life and lower fees... eat poorly (and establish a behavioral pattern) and future health claims may become an issue.
