Price/Value is the essence of shopping not a little line.
If they can't offer competitive prices this won't pick-up.
Naturally they should, since they will have minimum number of employees.
- LOL! you just argued with your own self? LMAOchukkaphob
- I would definitely pay a little more to not have to wait in line or wait for the cashiers.voiceof
- @chukka what is funny here? lmao? really?Beeswax
- 1 of your voices: "for this to work, they need low prices"
another 1 of your voices responds: "they will have low prices"chukkaphob - LMAO!chukkaphob

imagine the metrics they'll be able to collect. what you look at, what you pick up and for how long, what kind of signage works, endless user demographics like what you wear, what age, race you are...

"JUST WALK OUT TECHNOLOGY"...
aka Shoplifting???
- dbloc1
Shoplifters at other store will just say that they just assumed that it was the same as the Amazon Go store.

'add a pop of protein to your meal' hahah, ew.
.
i can't be bothered with any of this sort of shit - i'd rather walk around, wait in line and then pay in cash rather than have Captain Fucko over there know EVERYTHING about me through my piece of shit tracking devi... mobile phone.
- oooh, watch out! Mr.Secretive's life is so confidential! He's so special and noone should know he buys GMO crap once in a while. Top secret!chukkaphob
- I agree, and it's not so much that my shopping habits are being logged, but that it's not really necessary or even that much better than analog shopping.monospaced
- If you can't see how intrusive and potentially dangerous this sort of tech is, when (as it will) evolve, chukkaphob, then more fool you.detritus
- Just pretend that was grammatically coherent.detritus
- And as mono points out - what's the significant advantage here? None. 2 minutes extra a day - for what? More time to ogle at Facebook?detritus
- i completely get why Amazon and Banks would be pushing this shit - huge amounts of advantage for them and the masters they serve.detritus

- 1. give it up, its a lost fight
2. you are not special or interesting to anyonedrgs - 1. Not really, can opt out.
2. DRGS, no! I thought we...?detritus - in the future we all will be monitored by tiny devices the size of dust, there is no escape.drgs
- you just need to realize the rediculous amount of data and its all processed in a distant, generalized way. no living person actually cares of anything you dodrgs
- ha, re: dust - that's always been my biggest thoughts against UFOs being of alien origin - why would they bother revealing themselves so clumsily?detritus

I'd much rather have a self driving cart with a cup holder big enough for a 2 liter bottle of coke and a 6 foot American Flag and pole on back.

I'd rather they figure out a way to help existing grocery stores better manage their supplies so they don't have to throw so much away. Perhaps this is the start of that. In a sense, I am okay with the tracking if the end result is a more goods/waste efficient store, but something about this does seem overkill.
- not a grocery store problem, nice try, mono!doesnotexist

Perhaps Apple will invest in this or similar technology in a few years.
- Given how many people I've seen flash their iPhones to pay for shit, I'd be surprised if they're not already half way there.detritus
- Why create the technology and or innovate it...when Apple can go out and just buy the technology.utopian
- what's apple got to do with this?inteliboy

We ill find out 20 years from now that all of this sensor technology gives us cancer.
- BabySnakes2
What happens if you enter the store and then turn off your device? Do they throw the spot light on you and and sound the alarm? RFID blocking grocery bags?
- Good point.freedom
- "Citizen, please enable your tracking device. Failure to comply will be met with resistance."ETM
- Or can you only enter the store if you swipe in with the app? What if you're in just to have a look at the prices and not as they automatically assume, to buy.face_melter
- monNom0
This seems needlessly complex.

- It was a challenge... finding/grabbing a new release before it was gone. Telling your friends you got a copy and to pop over. Now there is no scarcity there.ETM

The world has gone mad.
Though that saccharine corporate music that's in every one of these video makes it feel like all this bullshit is good for us for some reason.

My packet of cornflakes has just sent a Tweet and my wifi-enabled shopping basket is being used to disrupt access to Xbox Live.

Imagine for a sec one day this type of technology becomes so commonplace and the food purchase patterns each individual makes is logged under the guise of convenience... justified as a simple Netflix 'because you watched' feature presented in the grocery aisle...
Two things come to mind, the sort of hyper-targeted rfid-like advertising opportunities available in these controlled environments (ie Minority Report)...
And i wonder how valuable such real-time, logged meta data related to someone's personal 'health choices' would be to the big health insurance providers... eat right? enjoy a healthier life and lower fees... eat poorly (and establish a behavioral pattern) and future health claims may become an issue.
- im more scared for the people who prefer certain freedoms over technological conveniences. what happens when FB becomes the SS# and you want to refuse.deathboy
- this collectivist consumer culture is getting pretty scary. advertising use to be fun. provide entertainment for viewing. simple tradedeathboy
- now its completely consumerism driven through data, manipulations and information bias. who needs creative entertainment. im hoping its just a phasedeathboy
- ^ there's too much money at stake for companies to allow it to fail. It may stutter and wobble but it will become the norm. Sadly.face_melter
- i hope youre wrong but you are probably right. one of the greatest things about walmart was they provided jobs for the most incapable people. buffet sold sharesdeathboy

No lines. No checkout. No jobs.
- Of course there are jobs. Just not four people at checkout lines.monospaced
- I don't use Human checkout wherever I can. Self-checkout 4 life. Unless you have like 50 items.section_014
- ya i prefer self check out.pango
- I knew Republicans were going to hate this idea. No more outmoded jobs, Stop the progress. There's no way cashiers could ever get a job with Amazon Go.CyBrainX
- That sounds like a scary amount of computer mumbo jumbo and training.CyBrainX
- And that's when they stop liking the capitalism they constantly preach about.CyBrainX

- The shop shutters drop and everyone inside is gassed to prevent thievery.face_melter
- what if its a kosher deli?drgs
- then nothing happens because this thread is about Amazon stores.face_melter
- but I am curious as to why you immediately made the connection between people being incapacitated with gas and a Jewish food outlet.face_melter
- thats the only people incapacitated with gasdrgs
