    (Star Wars Spoiler--- don't read)

    The thing about literature (which applies to cinema) is that if you can pull off memorable characters then they really stick with people and to see a legendary beloved character like Han Solo finally die is almost like seeing a family member die and it also makes his legend stronger.

    This is what made the original Dark Knight Returns so compelling. It was supposed to be Batman's final story.

    I think Robin Hood dies in one of his last stories as well.
