- The Soviet space program is a favourite subject of mine. This, the Buran, is almost an exact copy of the US Shuttle apart from the cockpit and engines...face_melter
- ...because the photos and specs they stole/based their design on didn't have those details, so it has no propulsion and is purely a glider.face_melter
- Best story is a guy from JPL finding a set of rocket engines from the early 70's, I think. He brought them to the US, hooked them up and they fired first time!face_melter
- (this was in the early 2000's) Not only did they fire perfectly, they had a greater fuel/thrust efficiency than the rockets JPL were currently designing.face_melter
