Back in the 70s most of the playground equipment I played on had been there for over 20 years, and often included the devilish "Witches Hat"
Slides that were 25feet high, roundabouts and long seesaws and vertiginous swings with shiny plastic seats. All of these were set into asphalt. If you didn't hold on strongly enough, you would fall on the asphalt and it would hurt. A strong feedback mechanism that accelerated physical learning. I remember playing on the very same witches hat that smashed out my aunt's front teeth when she was 9.
