I do all of my work on a 1TB external HD, which I then sync to a couple of backup external HDs. I work on Windows 7/ XP and I just started using a program called GoodSync. Like the name suggests, it's good, but not great. Still looking for the perfect backup/sync app.
I try to do my syncs once a week, but that doesn't always happen.
The REALLY important client stuff that I'll be screwed if I lose, I backup on my web server or via gmail. I do primarily web work, so these are generally small files.
For personal photos I post everything on my flickr page and upload at original resolution, which in my mind is kind of like a backup.
I'd like to store my HDs at different locations in case of fire, theft, etc... but I don't have a good 2nd place right now so I'm kind of screwed if these things happen.
I've thought a lot about backing up over the years, and I've pretty much concluded that there is no single perfect solution.
