  Salaries in NYC can be just as high as London, exchange rates notwithstanding.

  In my first year out of college I got a few offers from the major players in NYC. I accepted the best (and highest paying) offer from Salomon Brothers at $75,000 USD base. Obviously this was a while back (1999-2000) but it's relative.
