Show me a company that keeps pushing firmware updates for old hardware. One that upgrades old hardware with new features like Apple had been for the last two years with the first gen iPhone.
I remember Pentax adding features once to an older dslr model while releasing a new one and camera owners were pleasantly surprised. But the upgraded camera wasn't even 3 years old.
Apple don't have to add new functionality to the old model, but they did for long enough. The iPhone didn't have copy/paste when you bought it, but they were kind enough to give you an upgrade for free. It was a bonus.
Of course it was in their best interest to keep you updated so you could buy stuff from App Store. But still, it was a bonus :)
