d_rek...You lose the 5 pounds in water weight. The body does not go into a state of cannibalism. Yes you need exercise. And pr2, I'm no doctor, but having experienced this cleanse, I can tell you that it works on many levels. It's really not for dieting, and the people who do use it ONLY for that, lose the benefits of understanding the spiritual and mental boost.
You should always eat healthy. The main purpose is to rid yourself of toxins. Read the ingredients of all the foods you eat. Corn Fructose, preservatives, dyes, sodiumcitricpectinacidfunk (yumm), etc... Point is you eat tons of these crap that resides in the foods we eat. It's true the body does clean itself, but it has to go up against all the chemicals used in today's food, that does not exist naturally. Why do you think there is such a high obesity in people these days compared to people of back then? It's the chemicals preventing us from metabolism, lack of the real nutrients that exist in natural foods and the chemicals used to keep us eating more and more. The reason why you can just have one chip. Because the chemicals make you want to eat more. Like how MSG makes things taste better.
When people go through this detoxification, you rid yourself of decades worth of crap just living inside your intestinal system. You see this when you've taken all the crap you can, haven't eaten for days and you find you're still shitting black junk on the Master Cleanse. This is all the build ups you've acquired and will find things leaving your body that you had there since 2000 or even since birth. These chemicals also have an effect on how you feel.
Once you get rid of all these toxins, the lining of your walls are clean and you can obtain MORE nutrients from the foods you eat. This rebooting of your digestive system allows you then fill your body with only good organic and clean foods. Replacing the junk foods with organic fruits and vegetables makes you feel 10 times better!
