My friends iphone broke and apparently there was a small drop of water in it.... she's not sure how it got there (never took it outside in the rain), but they said it voided the warrenty.
Another time my friend had a chip in the case of his phone. They replaced it no questions asked.
Fairly inconsistent. Seems like if you fail the first time in getting a new phone, try again with another store/person.
