Thanks for the advice trooperbill. I recently started using copyscape and have found it to be an invaluable resource for finding instances of duplicate content.
I noticed recently that the rankings for one of the sites I maintain has shot waaaay up after a few relatively minor changes to the text on the homepage to make it's content more unique. All other pages of this particular website had unique content, but the homepage had a few lines of text that were essentially duplicated word-for-word from another one of my client's sites.
My assumption to take away from this is that no matter how well the sub-pages of a site may be optimized, if the homepage has even a small amount of duplicate content it may bring down the rest of the site. Would you agree?
