In fact, because of the full frame thing, the Canon lens might not be as wide on your 350D, than the Tokina one (10/17) and the canon one has no zoom, on the one I got if its too curvy you can still zoom in and get rid of it and still be wider than your stock lens (18-55).
I have pretty much the same camera you have, and I love it.
when I was shopping for it, I went on flickr and started searching by camera and by lens, to see the results people were getting with the set up I wanted. You should give that a try.
