the culture of believing everything you are told, which our parents lived in unquestioningly, has been replaced not by greater insight, but by a culture of intense cynicism leaning into paranoid delusion regarding anything coming from "authority"
neither is ideal, hopefully we'll get over it eventually and have a bit of sense generally
