first off: this is my first post in 2009 so happy new year to you all!
benfal99. many moons ago i took a 100, 200 and 300 level life drawing courses in college. by far i feel as though these were where i learned the absolute most about fine tuning and progressing my drawing skill.
we'd spend a week just trying to capture the form of the body, which really which really taught me how to look past all the details and first focus on the basic shape of the form (ie. don't look her square in the titties and vagina)
with these classes we were also given anatomy lessons and told to study anatomy books. from a models pose for a month we'd just draw the skeletal structure. after we'd draw that for a month we'd then lay another sheet of semi-transparent paper over the top and draw the models muscle structure over the top of the bone structures we drew a month earlier.
this was accomplished by posing the model in the same pose for 2 months or so at a time.
aside from seeing many a nekkid ladies of all shapes and sizes (and unfortunately an equal amount of men) it teaches you to that if you're going to draw something... anything... to first look at it's inner structure, it's form, it's composition and skeletal structure then draw outward.
it really made me a better artist.
it's a damn shame though i haven't picked up a pencil and drawn like that in years.
:(
you'll learn a lot from these classes dude. have fun and hopefully you have a great professor.
