I was there as well a couple weeks ago. Gorgeous country. Stayed in Tamarindo, right in front of a nice reefbreak. We did the zipline tour also, although I didn't look like quite as much of a tool as wendog ;)
Tamarindo was nice in some ways, but EVERYTHING is under construction. Constant hammering, trucks, dust, etc. etc...
Good waves, I surfed in Tamarindo, Playa Grande and Playa Avellanas. Could have stayed there for a month. Was bummed that I couldn't make it to Ollie's Point or Witches Rock.
Travelling was an absolute bloody nightmare – got charged $680 to transport ONE board case (OK, it was a hard case w/ 3 boards, but still). If I can help it, I'll never fly Delta Airlines ever again. We're fighting it to the death, but I'm not very hopeful since it seems all Airline companies are shitting the collective customer service bed. Meh.
