Well initially i was excited because I thought this thread was about making the beast with 2 backs...but to address your question....
This situation sucks and it happens to everyone at some point I believe.
I am fairly new to professional freelancing but so far I've been charging by the hour for everything I do. I like that system because I feel its fair to me and fair to the client.
There's been one or two times so far where I had to re-do something for free because the client was not satisfied, but so far its worked out fairly well. It makes the client respect your time.
So in conclusion...charge by the hour when at all possible.
