  It's only one other larger image in that example. I don't see why you couldn't do some math and just load in the hi res image in the correct position after zooming in.

  actually using that link i posted and another thing (forget what it's c alled) it actually cuts the image up into hundreds of seperate jpgs that it loads only when needed. loading in only a low res and a high res would still be a huge file size considering how much the image has to be zoomed in...if that makes any sense.
