If you've got good experience and a good portfolio but you're not what they're looking for, I'd suggest you're applying for jobs in the wrong part of the industry.
I find that if you apply for anything and they say something like that, most companies are happy to provide feedback on your interview/folio/experience if you ask them.
There's nothing to lose when asking and a lot to gain so why not just ask them directly.
I couldn't see your folio as the link in your profile goes to a holding page so it's difficult to say if it needs tweaking.
