I think those who bash the XT have exaggerated claims.
Sure its small, but I have small hands and it feels great. Also, its lighter people! Smaller and lighter for me means its more portable and I will wind up taking it to more places and taking more pictures.
Yes is plastic, but who wouldn't treat a $600+ camera like their baby anyway? This really does not bother me at all.
In terms of features and controls it is lacking compared to 20D/30D but these are features that you should grow into as you mature as a photographer. Hell, I haven't reached the level where I feel like I need them yet.
Also for the dude who said that the XT is only good for auto modes...I don't think that could be farther from the truth.

If you have the money I'd say get the 20D, but remember that a camera is only a tool. Its the person behind the tools that makes the great photos.
