  I find clients like 32bit pngs. (or 24bit + transparency according to photoshop). The MS office suite seems to support them, and they can overlay them on photos and stuff for powerpoints.

  but to be honest, I'm not sure that anything will print nicely out of Word. if your looking for sharp black only, I'd try a 1200dpi bitmap.
