  I'd suggest: a medium fast Athlon X2 (like 3600/3800_

  sata raid drives (2) if you can afford the 10,000 rpm Western digitals, go with those... they're spendy but speedy.

  and a third high volume drive for storage. (doesn't need to be fast)

  don't splurge on a graphics card. ~$250 will get you an excellent card. they're equivalent to the $1,500 cards from 6 months ago.

  as much ram as your can afford. and don't dick around with LCD's, save you money and get a pair of high quality 21" CRT's
