"Why even strict vegans should feel comfortable eating oysters by the boatload"
http://www.slate.com/articles/li…
I can't stand seafood, but I was gladdened to read this - particularly in regards to their farming
- there was a old report that oysters dont have a nervous system and there for its okay to eat.mugwart
- the guy that stated this later on said he was wrong.
As a vegan I always thought it was wrongmugwart - That's addressed right there in the article.detritus
- yeah but they look like dead labia bathed in loogiescarabin_net
- *unzips flydetritus
- No they are not vegan!
*unzips fly!mugwart

I haven't meet a Vegan that hasn't had a change for the better in real world - though looking online it seems to be though they are not eating animals - they still are trying to live the same as they were before.
Being Vegan just about being healthy its also bring about an end of a cycle.
I cant see this working in the long run as Vegan processed burgers are still full of shit. Fried food is still full of oil.
It is a huge mental shift and requires constant work.
Vegans cakes are nice but they still are made with a shit tonne of fating shit.Cut out all processed food. Look at the backs of packages. Question all that's in there. Analazise your eating plan.
This shouldn't be a vegan only thing!
If you take diets as OS, Windows if a proud meat eater, Mac is a whine vegetarian that still considers bacon plant based, Vegan is bare bones pain in your arse compile everything from source gentoo linux.
My GF and I hardly go into supermarkets as all the Vegan food there, if any (the shit GMO veg they have there isnt veg!) it will be over processed food.
Go to a decent market and get the best spices, steam with your veggies, dont have too much nuts/ pastas. Your shit will thank you for it!
Do this for a month or so and you'll notice.
break your routine, explore new shit... your guts will thank you for it!
My 10p!

- That looks pretty tasty. Any spices on it?noneck
- Yep, equal parts funugreek, fennel, cumin, nigella and brown mustard seeds, a.k.a. panch phoron. I'm not a vegan BTW, this just fit the bill! It's damn good.MrT
- huh - how do brown differ from black mustard seeds? Also, do you use many? I had a weird-tasting curry a few weeks back 'cos I used too many, i thinkdetritus
- Brown and black mustard are the same thing. In this there's about 1/2-1 tsp of each seed. I'm getting my recipe site together!MrT

- yeah it's weird, i've never actually seen this mythical "annoying vegan" but every day it's bullshit from meat eatersscarabin
- well.... i do have bad experience with judgmental vegans. the worst is the wiccan lesbian vegan house... ughhhh they're the worst!pango
- lol. i'm sorry to hear that! it's a shame that egos get involved in a matter as innocuous as foodscarabin
- ya i'm fine with whatever diet people have. but when they try to stop me from keeping their friendship together. then it's not cool anymore.pango

- +1 for smoked salt. I've kept some for years, for steaks and burgers, but i use that shit over everything these days. Good in curries!detritus

After reading this thread I went to the grocery store and got ingredients to turn this leftover rice into really good breakfast fried rice. Totally vegan, with zucchini, carrots, garlic, ginger, scallions and all kinds of good flavor. I highly recommend it.
Tonight I'm making grilled salmon over a (vegan) quinoa that I'm preparing with cucumbers, onions, tomatoes and peppers, as well as parsley, mint and a light lemon dressing. Oh yeah.
- Nice - sounds great. Keep reading advice to avoid eating large quantities of quinoa though - it's good in moderation but can cause nasty stomach issues.fadein11
- apparently.fadein11
- I hated on Quinoa for years, joking about it being the fayre of middle class twats. Then I had some. By God, it's amazing. I feel so much better after eating itdetritus
- I think it's overrated but have it prob once a week. I makes me fart like a trooper though.fadein11
- @det - i know what you mean - Keith from Nuts in May would be a big fan I reckon.fadein11
- I can't parse this: "Keith from Nuts in May" - what do you mean?detritus

- As you are from UK thought you may know of it - absolute stone cold classic comedy film from way back - Mike Leigh. The main character is v.much a quinoa type.fadein11
- I've never made quinoa before, but I do order it regularly at this one place. I love the stuff, but probably only eat it 3-4x/monthmonospaced
- It's super easy to makeformed
- can confirm that eating too much fucks your stomach up!mugwart
- It just seems to make poops faster and easier. No stomach issues.monospaced

if you're somewhere that winter happens, being vegan can be an absurd trend to keep up with. your body will need protein. from meat.
what is the biggest reason to attempt veganisn, you all that are doing it here...?
- animals aren't the only source of protein, and you don't even need that much. it's absurdly easy for a vegan to get all the protein he needs.scarabin
- http://www.onegreenp…scarabin
- It's not the protein from meat your body needs, but please, do continue.section_014

I know over weight vegans.
Meat is not making you fat, stuffing your face and not moving around is.
- Cut all processed food
- drink water
- eat small meals 4-5 a day
- breakfast is the biggest meal, dinner the lightest
- cut the bread out, aim for 300grams of carbs per day if you must.- move! anything just get off your ass.
- long periods of cardio don't compare to HIIT work outs. I was a distance runner for years, fuck that shit. I only do HIIT sprints and weights now.

being vegan is ignorant and ignores your locally available food sources.
ya big dummy
- that doesn't even make sense. squirrels are a locally available food source but you're not eating themscarabin
- I think he does o_0zarkonite
- I think I get this, most vegans I know still get food from tesco. For me that nulls the point of being vegan. Still giving the cunts our money.mugwart
- local farmer's markets...it makes complete sense dude. who says i'm not eating squirrels?doesnotexist
- who says we're not getting our veg at farmer's markets? i even mentioned it in my post abovescarabin
- 90% of my food is local. i even raise my own chickens for eggsscarabin

- I got excited recently, told the kitchen here was going to start opening early and doing breakfasts. YES! No. Vegan breakfasts. No bacon, no eggs, no point.detritus
- The girl who told me actually LOL'd when she saw my face scrunch up as I tried to imagine what on Earth was left, before it dawned - porridge. Just porridge.detritus
- I mean, porridge is great - my blood is Scottish after all - but fuck's sake.detritus
- haha. I love porridge, but only with mushrooms, onions, courgette, tomato and peppersIanbolton
- You might be on to something there..!detritus

- Haha. I've been eating veggie full english breakfasts for the past 6 months or so and genuinely prefer them. I enjoy tit just as much and feel infinitely...set
- ... better afterwards. Fuck vegan breakfast though.set
- Well I'm sure we all enjoy tit but this is the wrong thread for thatset
- if I ever bother with breakfast, it's egg-based. Bacon's a rare treat for me, but only mostly because I OD'd on it a few years ago so can't stomach much.detritus

- technically speaking, sushi means "contains vinegar" or "with vinegar" so perhaps, all sushi is vegan?Miguex
- oh mysureshot
- Sorry miguex, but adding vinegar to something doesn't make it vegan ;)monospaced

i'm been mostly vegan for almost 4 months now.. i like it! i'm moving towards some occasional seafood and i will eat honey. however no more dairy or meats for me
- Aye, fish aren't animals. Never understood how people can think eating tuna is somehow worthier than eating a fucking chicken...detritus
- I once joked to a newly vegan friend about how he could justify enslaving bees by eating honey. Daft fucker looked at me thoughtfully, then quit that toodetritus
- ^ hahafadein11
- i've only eaten seafood 2x recently and it was wild alaskan salmon. with the honey bee on endangered species list it's actually good to support honeybliznutty
- d, whether its worthier to eat a tuna over a chicken - can't answer that. but eat them both raw and see which one makes you feel good vs. make you sickbliznutty
- @bliznutty: it's our industrial use of bees that are killing them.zarkonite
- You can eat chicken raw if it's raised well— your farms in the states are generally 'not nice' though. I tend to cook chicken as little as minimally as possibledetritus
- ..and reguoarly eat rare or raw pork and beef, so your comparison doesn't make a heck of a lot of sense.detritus
- Additionally, your nature-raised sea-plunder's probably got worms in, whereas my farmed and accountable chicken doesn't.detritus
- Not trying to argue with you — I've just experienced a lot of 'animal-loving' vegans with a weird cogonitive dissonance where fish are concerned...detritus
- ..which strikes me as particularly odd given the distinction between farmed, accountable meat and sealife yanked out of the sea on a massively industrial scale.detritus
- chicken does not have salmonella by defaultmonospaced
- d, i'm in some agreement - i shouldn't be eating any seafood. z, my understanding is bees are being killed by pesticides off the plants they are pollenatingbliznutty
- @mono - around 50% of chickens in UK have salmonella by default.fadein11
- that's why you have to cook it properly unlike other meats that can be eaten raw or rare.fadein11
- sorry my mistake - it's Campylobacter.fadein11
- I imagine it would be the same in US - https://www.theguard…fadein11
- Salmonella still an issue as well.fadein11
- They have it because of their environment, not because of some epi/genetic weirdness, so therefore not 'by default'.detritus
- yep - I know but alas most people by shit chicken don't they. But yes I totally agree so excuse me.fadein11
- buy*fadein11
- I buy shit chicken. I'm also a very experienced cook, so it's not a problem for me. Anyway, thanks for the info. didn't realize it was as high as 50%monospaced
- Glad you like it. I've been doing it for over a year and a half. never regretted it. Bitch to find places to eat though!mugwart
- There's no evidence to suggest that fish suffer like animals. Aside from the fact that 'yanking them out of the sea' is no comparison to battery farming...set
- .. for example, there's no evidence to suggest they suffer or even feel pain in the same way animals do.set

lunches are easy...
1/2 should be veggies:
whatever looks great at your farmer's market;
steamed, stir-fried, grilled, roasted, pickled, however you like it1/4 should be carb:
quinoa, rice, couscous, bread, pita, etc1/4 should be protein:
beans, lentils, egg, hummus, seitan, tempeh, any meat substitute you likemake shit ahead of time so all you have to do in the morning is throw it together. i pack mine in one of these and don't even bother reheating at lunchtime:
https://www.amazon.com/Monbento-…- also, there are endless delicious soups you can make, just google for recipes. in the morning just heat and pack in a thermosscarabin
- also, a little cooking skills will go a long way. pick up some basic techniques and you can make anything. don't rely on a microwave or others to feed you!scarabin
