I see high-ppi displays on Android phones and tablets but is there an equivalent on desktop outside of OSX?
Does recent Windows even work with Retina displays?
I might be biased, I always thought Retina was just a gimmick but ever since I got a Retina-equipped phone I want to take it behind middle school and get it pregnant, it looks so tight...
- You want to have sex with a phone.mg33
- Win 8 works on retina after changing the settings to not use 1:1 pixels.

I thought stock price was a problem of the stockholders, not Apple's. Apple is just busy stockpiling money.
- Apply is nothing without its shareholders. That's what a public company is - they have to answer to Wall Street.formed
- No. Shareholders are Apple's hostages now and there's many of them they're spread too wide to have a single voice.shaft
- Apple is doing brilliantly, better than ever, they have nothing to answer for.shaft

doomed I tells ya, doomed! oh wait...

I, too, am waiting for Retina competition. Sadly, the PC world seems to be so flow to adopt/copy innovation. Good with changing strategies mid game (not) and half assed ideas, but that's it.
I am still optmistic that the Surface Pro will allow me to avoid buying a laptop. I need something I can take on trips and do basic editing on. These convertibles look promising, but again, someone has to step up and create one that is good enough for professional use.

you are all looking to get validation from other people on why are you getting another phone that's not made by apple. why even try? no one says that you HAVE TO HAVE an iPhone, get whatever you want man, is just a phone.
But don't start long as elaborated theories trying to analyze what will happen in the future because no one can know that.
On a side note, the windows phone has a very nice UI, maybe better than iOS, I was looking at it the other day and it's really nice. If it was up to me, I wouldn't let any software developer to have color logos, just white on OS color, (or at least give that option to the user).
Will I ever get one? probably not, but I can appreciate it without having to initiate a 'what phone is best combat situation'

I have been an android user for a while - love it. S2 easily the best phone I have ever had (I've used Android and ios).
But time to upgrade now. S4 is out in April (UK) but I am also tempted to try an iPhone 5 for a change.
What do you reckon? Is it as disappointing as people say.- I have one...far from disappointed!
the best thing is...it just works! :]vivid

Apple has combined being a very large company with startup-thinking. That was good and brought up some cool products but now it's not that Apple has become slow or lame, it's just that other companies catched up and are now overtaking them.
Apple was 90% Steve Jobs. Jobs is dead. We have seen it with Apple Maps. Jobs would have never let things like that happen. Apple is struggling to keep their speed of 'innovations'. They were sleeping just for some months and threads like this are the results.
- Apple was not 90% Jobs, sorry, and there's no way you can predict what he would have donemonospaced
- To me it seems Jobs was most likely behing the creation of Apple Maps and it push to launch prematurely. Probably one of his last decisions carried out.instrmntl

^^Apple Maps was their best move. 2 months later after iOS 6 was released, Google Maps released a new version of it's app that is far superior to the previous and Apple don't have to pay a license to Google anymore. Sounds like it went fucking great to me..

Companies have indeed caught up to Apple. Overtaken, not yet...but close. They are moving and adapting far faster than they ever did with PCs, that's for sure.
Where Apple goes will depend on their next OS, imho. I can't stand their icons and find it pretty amateurish (at this point), but it does work and people are familiar with it. But Windows is far better (again, imho).
Now that they have fired Scott Forstall, I think there is hope. But then again, their OS has looked amateurish forever (bouncing icons?? A company would be laughed at if they created that with a Flash website).
I am anxious to see what iOS 7, or whatever, looks like. The world of Apple will depend on it.

- Windows has yellowed folders and a disgusting reflex blue interface, aliased type and you think it's better?monospaced

Apple is also struggling with their own limitations. It's just gotten too popular and too big.
People move to macs from their windows machines and can't use them. So Apple was making their machines worse and worse over the past years to make it feel cool for new users. No one of the old-generation mac users feels familiar with their new ecosystem. All the limitations and dictatorship.. thats just not Apple anymore.

The brand is so powerful people with money to burn will continue to pay over the odds for poor (sometimes) products. I have family members who do it all the time. iCloud is awful, iTunes is awful, iPhoto etc. are awful. But because they appear to be so easy people love it (until something goes wrong and you are fucked).
I have used Apple products for 20 years and still love a lot of what they do but healthy competition is a great thing for everyone.- I agree with competition, don't agree that they're doomed though.ESKEMA

meanwhile, tell me what app is the shit on Android? or Windows phone, that is not on iPhone?
Exactly. Developers are the people who make a good platform great, and they choose iOS. Android is secondary. There hasn't been ONE app that stood out and came to become an icon coming from Android exclusively. THAT is the main difference between platforms. App ecosystem. And Apple is lightyears away in that department..- thats because historically the app designers/developers were apple kids - thats changing.fadein11
- lol, developers traditionally Apple kids!? please, we have been the bane of the gaming world until 5 years agomonospaced

OS development will be key to their continued success - its all looking a bit tired now.

Their phone was groundbreaking with the touch screen. However, their dictatorship of a closed system, sandboxed apps etc is hurting them in the long run.
- it's hurting them so bad, they have only sold 25 BILLION appsmonospaced
