I really liked Huanchaco in the north
Really amazing Adobe city near by. Worlds biggest.
Inca trail is a slog, you can do a short version which is what I did. One day treck, stay in the lodge that everyone else stays in and walk up for dawn.
Personally I think the most amazing place was the Salar de Uni
Which you can access from Peru, the tours leave from.
Lake titicaca was cool and the flight over the Nazca lines was pretty spectacular.
- <yes! lake titicaca was gorgeous! i want to do the salar and the nazca lines next time for sure!!sea_sea

okay, one more thing, since you'll be on a trail, don't forget your own water bottle to fill up with fresh water or coca leaf tea. walking sticks are sold for like a buck and some coca leaves to chew on for the road!! not kidding. :) they help stabilize your heart rate and acclimate your body to the altitude. it also helps if you take a nap or rest your body for a few hours once you get to high altitude. gives your body a chance to get with it. or else you run the risk of altitude sickness, which i got there as well, :( it was hell, no other words can describe that. coca leaves are your best friend! :)

I loved Lima and the atmosphere was very cool, awesome people. we walked around the downtown area, there's some catacombs you can go into under some church in the area that have some crazy formations made of skulls. some cool museums and delicious ceviche!! the sea food is extraordinary. have a cusqueña beer for sure! i had the worse hang over of my life due to overdose of pisco sours, beware!! lol

^ amazing church architecture. parks with weird public art. b-boys dancing. military might installations (propaganda). and theres a restaurant called Chozen sea food or somethin like that. Sit on a roof top eating tons of bomb ceviches, downing pisco sours while looking at all the rooftop ruins you can't see from the streets they never fixed from the big earthquakes

Anything interesting to see in Lima?

I went with PeruTreks to hike the Inca Trail. Is that what you're referring to as the "tourist trail?" Inca trail was amazing with lots of serene time with no one in sight. Super powerful. But i can see you wanting to get away from that too. There alot of people at times. Stayed at Amaru Hostel in Cusco before and after, which was nice. The Radison in Lima was very plush for the money. Highly recommend it. One thing i would say is take a plunge with public transportation, if you're not a mark. So much cheaper. and you get to see a side of the city most people foreigners don't. Have a great trip!
- I already decided on Cordillera Huayhuash. Inka trail will be my next trip.zaq

Tips
Taxi: call a remisse service. I'ts a little expensive but it's secure. If you want to take a public taxi (not remisse, but independent at street) don't take the first public taxi that you ask for, probably he will know or suspect that you are tourist and will charge you a little bit more because of that. You can ask for a discount. Short travels in Lima in a taxi cost like S/. 5 to S/. 10 (5km or less), long travels (5km or more) S/. 15 to S/. 30. At province citys the cost are cheaper.Recommendation
Perú is at autumn. In the coast there is a lot of fog and humidity. Sierra it's more clear and warm, but cold at night. Take a wardrobe accord to the season and the city.Practice your spanish. The accent it's important, practice with some spanish songs from peruvian music bands.
Leads
Check google maps to learn where are you near at, learn the name of the principal streets, take note from some phone number for emergency.Warnings
Be carefully, you know that the problem of public security it's from every corner of the world, so you need to be carefully. We are very charmin people with everyone but always exist some undesirable people that take some advantage from the distracted ones. Be modest with your technological devices (camera, laptop, cellphone, etc... ) and not to be a victim from a assault.Good luck, have fun!.
- muchas gracias, this is very helpful.zaq
- good advise! yep, thermals saved me. you can always get a cool alpaca sweater or hoodie there. so warm. take a headlamp! can't stress this enough. and know that once you give one street kid money, you'll have 20 come up to you right after. lolsea_sea

I did the Lares Trek a couple of years ago, amazing scenery. Think it's only 2-3 days though and I wouldnt say it's jungle as its a high altitude hike. Still amazing though and you end up back in Aguas Calientes and can walk up to machu picchu very early the next day
- nice. i did that walk up to machu picchu as well. cool hike. both ways. take a head lamp!sea_sea
