Has anyone addressed the fact that it is just some kind of gimmick that sits above normal windows? Is there some kind of new architecture here? Why does windows look exactly the same? Why not refine the actual OS? Why is it some kind of split down the middle metro vs windows explorer interface?
Yes I could google this shit, but one shouldn't have to. When OS X was launched it was pretty damn clear this was a new generation operating system for Apple.
- where have you been?
OSX is seriously out of date now.fadein11 - he said, when it was released, you fuckassmonospaced
- Info about win 8 architecture is ALL over the net. Google it.ETM

This looks promising. I am happy that it is only a $40 (or $50?) upgrade over 7. I'll personally wait a bit, but will upgrade.
Also very excited about the possibilities of using a tablet with PS. I wanted a new laptop, but only work remotely here and there.
That said, my new machine (with whatever latest i7 and 32gbs of ram barely feels faster than my last machine when editing the Nikon D800's massive files - I've received 'warnings' that the files exceed the 2gb limit on PSDs numerous times now! But I digress....)
Mostly, W8 is prettier than anything else (iOS has always been horribly ugly, imho)

I dunno. The Windows part still looks clunky to me.

^ Couldn't they have redone the fucking icons to match the rest of it?
- Folder icons? Yeah they should redesign those. But they are easily changeable if you really want.benfal99
- Why should I have to do their job for them.
Also I found an old win 95 folder icon while digging aroundanimatedgif

Installed so far no issues. Programs seem to be working still. Quite like it actually.

just managed to create a partition. gonna install soon.
hopefully i didn't bugger my boot drive. can't deal with a crash now.- as i understand if you have two OS booting on a system this affects the master boot record, the MBR can sometimes crash.i_was
- it didn't crash, but it did change it to 'dynamic' drives, and windows 8 won't install on it...sine
- don't know how to fix that, but at least my master boot still works and i can use the new partition for data.sine

Iam using since 10minutes now... And i have to say it looks really good. I really like the new minimalistic UI design that Microsoft if pushing lately. But, I have to say also that for the first time in years, Iam a little bit confuse and lost on how to navigate with it... Iam pretty sure its gonna be A1 when I get all the new way to achieve this and that. All the concept of Desktop have changed and rolling from window to window and app to app.
- not that bad finally. But our mothers would be all lost for days.benfal99

Developers laughing...sounds serious.
- is it not a mask on top of the same OS? what is not funny about that?Miguex
- It's not a mask on top of the same OS.zarkonite

- That being said, from my personal perspective of a designer, looks really niceMiguex
- Your devs are quite the uninformed idiots. Here's some actual facts: http://arstechnica.c…zarkonite
- yes, insult them without knowing. That will make everything go back to normalMiguex
- Sorry, your devs do sound a bit like twats.ETM
- Who's the real twat for believing the twats?calculator
- seriously Miguex, if they really LAUGHED at it, that was an idiotic thing to do... go read that article, they've massively reengineered the back end.zarkonite
- the article looks nice, I'm talking about practical use.Miguex
- Doesn't seem like you are. You mention developers then follow that statement with a development comment.orrinward2
you two should fight about it.doesnotexist

It doesn't really matter though, does it? Most people will just be stuck with it when they buy a new computer, whether or not they know anything about it. Only Mac and Linux users, and Windows server/IT depts really pay any attention to OS releases.
- trueMiguex
- its like that site, dellrumours.com
no one paid attention to itMiguex

AN FRANCISCO (AP) — Microsoft bills Windows 8 as a "re-imagining" of the personal computer market's dominant operating system, but the company still has a lot of work to do before the makeover captures the imagination of most consumers, based on the results of a recent poll by The Associated Press and GfK.
The phone survey of nearly 1,200 adults in the U.S. found 52 percent hadn't even heard of Windows 8 leading up to Friday's release of the redesigned software.
Among the people who knew something about the new operating system, 61 percent had little or no interest in buying a new laptop or desktop computer running on Windows 8, according to the poll. And only about a third of people who've heard about the new system believe it will be an improvement (35 percent).
