I dunno. The Windows part still looks clunky to me.

I installed it on my PC the other day. I like the metro interface, it looks nice and it's fun to use...but then you realize you can't actually get any work done this way:(
Does anyone have any good recommendations for apps? Anything decent in terms of productivity or is it all games and social stuff?

Too bad they can no longer use the name Metro

I thought that was old news. The correct term has been changed to 'Win 8 Store Apps UI'. Pretty terrible so it's not catching on. What would have been wrong with just 'Win 8 UI'? That's what people will say, anyway.

It doesn't really matter though, does it? Most people will just be stuck with it when they buy a new computer, whether or not they know anything about it. Only Mac and Linux users, and Windows server/IT depts really pay any attention to OS releases.

- Then go to desktop mode. Or download one of the numerous little apps that will let you change the start screen.ETM

Installed so far no issues. Programs seem to be working still. Quite like it actually.

Developers laughing...sounds serious.
- is it not a mask on top of the same OS? what is not funny about that?Miguex
- It's not a mask on top of the same OS.zarkonite
- would you drive a car that a mechanic laughs at?rosem
- would you eat food that a chef laughs at?rosem
- would the food be funny?Miguex

- That being said, from my personal perspective of a designer, looks really niceMiguex
- Your devs are quite the uninformed idiots. Here's some actual facts: http://arstechnica.c…zarkonite
- yes, insult them without knowing. That will make everything go back to normalMiguex
- Sorry, your devs do sound a bit like twats.ETM
- Who's the real twat for believing the twats?calculator
- seriously Miguex, if they really LAUGHED at it, that was an idiotic thing to do... go read that article, they've massively reengineered the back end.zarkonite
- the article looks nice, I'm talking about practical use.Miguex
- Doesn't seem like you are. You mention developers then follow that statement with a development comment.orrinward2

Iam using since 10minutes now... And i have to say it looks really good. I really like the new minimalistic UI design that Microsoft if pushing lately. But, I have to say also that for the first time in years, Iam a little bit confuse and lost on how to navigate with it... Iam pretty sure its gonna be A1 when I get all the new way to achieve this and that. All the concept of Desktop have changed and rolling from window to window and app to app.
- not that bad finally. But our mothers would be all lost for days.benfal99

- and... so once you skip the Metro UI, is it about the same as Windows7 or different?vaxorcist

It's not bad, start menu is gone (it might take getting used to along with moving your mouse to the corner of the screen to see the metro interface, it didn't bother me), I'm testing CS6 also, I personally think it runs way better than windows 7.
You can download and use their RTM copy directly from MS, it expires after 90 days. You can download the Office 2013 preview as well. Task Manager has been nicely redone, quick reboots and shutdowns along with start ups. This is from a 5 year old Intel dual core by the way.
The Office ribbon interface is now part of windows explorer, more applications to connect to the internet life, windows app store
If you install and keep Chrome as your default browser, for some strange reason you can only use the IE desktop version not the Windows Metro Version
Not a bad release if you ask me.
