I thought that was old news. The correct term has been changed to 'Win 8 Store Apps UI'. Pretty terrible so it's not catching on. What would have been wrong with just 'Win 8 UI'? That's what people will say, anyway.

Too bad they can no longer use the name Metro

I played around with the new Metro UI at a store this weekend. I was pleasantly suprised by the new UI... it's quick, responsive and aesthetically pleasing (subjective, i know). Is the end all be all? I dunno, hard for me to say just from quicky demo... but my first impression is that it's a step in the right direction.

yes.. the idea of a beautiful skin over a kludgey older interface, that sounds like a lot of Linux distro's....

If Apple released a new OS that simply was a skin that sat on top of the normal everyday finder - they'd be burnt at the stake by nerds on the internet.

it's looks good so it might taste good.

its good. i hardly ever use metro tho and click to desktop for everything
- and... so once you skip the Metro UI, is it about the same as Windows7 or different?vaxorcist

- Then go to desktop mode. Or download one of the numerous little apps that will let you change the start screen.ETM

I installed it on my PC the other day. I like the metro interface, it looks nice and it's fun to use...but then you realize you can't actually get any work done this way:(
Does anyone have any good recommendations for apps? Anything decent in terms of productivity or is it all games and social stuff?

I posted some lengthy comments in another Windows 8 thread of you search for it. I've been running the consumer release preview since late July. Haven't tried the final product, but even the preview version has been remarkably stable.
I never use it in Metro mode. I can only see that being useful if I had a tablet or some kind of hybrid machine like the Lenovo Yoga IdeaPad.
