This software is v1.0 — after all the complaining I'm sure they'll have a lot of resources working on it to get v1.1, v1.2 out as soon as possible. Google Maps by comparison is on v4.0 at least. Apple had to make the cut from Google Maps at some point. I don't get what people don't understand...
- but surely they shiould have left an alternative ie googlemaps while they finish the job live.fadein11
- I agree with rosem, it's not ideal but it'll be good soon.monospaced

Apple is getting a beating in major news outlets and tech blogs right now.
I mean, I had public transportation directions before UPGRADING to this new operating system. Now I don't have this until a 3rd. party decides to release an app that gives routing info to these new maps.
Why release something so crippled so early?

^ True in some instances. However my iphone 4S has worked flawlessly since the day I got it.
- Basic rule: Never buy first gen apple products, never upgrade to first version of new apple os.set

- let the fanboys pay top dollar to do the debugginghans_glib
- ha ha exactly. I only go for something once it's is tested and proven etc. hence my 3GS
chossy - yea i've only had a 3gs and 4s and both have been great.set

Why settle for a work in progress? They shouldn't have launched this until it was ready – it isn't even usable, if the blog above is any indication.
- I agree. But I think they should ahve pushed harder to get it done sooner. Jobs would have cracked a fucking whip.monospaced
- Thats what I was thinking. This was probably a deadline already scheduled that would have been met if Jobs was alive.instrmntl

Apple spokeswoman Trudy Muller told Macworld:
“Customers around the world are upgrading to iOS 6 with over 200 new features including Apple Maps, our first map service. We are excited to offer this service with innovative new features like Flyover and Siri integration, and free turn-by-turn navigation. We launched this new map service knowing that it is a major initiative and we are just getting started with it. We are continuously improving it, and as Maps is a cloud-based solution, the more people use it, the better it will get. We’re also working with developers to integrate some of the amazing transit apps in the App Store into iOS Maps. We appreciate all of the customer feedback and are working hard to make the customer experience even better.”
- 'even' better!craigatkinson
- sounds like Microsoft. "it sucks now but stick with us and it's going to get better!"zarkonite

What makes me laugh is that the world (and in particular) our digital industry sell clients the idea on prototyping, rapid development, test and learn when live.
Someone brings out something in exactly the same vein pees go nuts. Put it live, develop on the go.
They had absolutely no choice, they couldn't keep shipping google's products and services.

This is what the iPhone 5 should've been. I mocked up everything from scratch in Illustrator (except the outer space pic).
Matte aluminum backing, glossy black logo, speakers and power button on top, headphone jack, mic, and charger on bottom, larger ear speaker, centered cameras, volume buttons like the iPhone 3, visually aligns with the iPad.
- long phone is long :Dchossy
- Well the screen is a 16:9 ratio. I think thats the widescreen ratio Apple is touting. Makes sense for movies.CanHasQBN
- I like a lotfadein11
- why the bulge?inteliboy
- yes, glossy black logo, very important.i_was
- < lolmonospaced
- It's tapered. the thickest point would be equal thickness to the depth of the current iPhone.CanHasQBN
- Wouldn't it be nice to hold a different form than the one we've been holding since the first iPhone 4??CanHasQBN
- Pick up your Magic Mouse and put it up to your ear. The curve follows the natural curve of your index finger as it lies across the back.CanHasQBN
- back.CanHasQBN
- i_was: everything is important. even how you treat a logo on a piece of industrial design.CanHasQBN
- Your attitude would fit in perfectly at Apple right now. "Meh... this and that are not important".CanHasQBN
- dude, like I said - go work for them. I'd be excited about this phone.SunSunSun

iPhone is an amazing machine. Iam not gonna complain or switch just because Maps. Iam using the webApp of Google Maps at the moment and its works A1. Updates will come.
- vuc0
I agree with the benfal.
i_monk you have a valid point, but the beauty of the iPhone's corners has swayed my opinion into buying it now and settling for the update when it comes - that and the fact my 4 is running slower than an elephant in mud.
- chossy0
I see what you are doing canhasQBN but I think it would be good to have a little more of a difference, although I bloody like it!!!
That's the thing set I only have a problem with apples errors because I see them as arrogant and cynical. I do think the iphone is a great product, just not perfect. The 4 and ios 6 in my opinion are a piss take. To be fair though if google dragged their heels with updates to the map app. then apple had no choice but I fucking doubt it, apple probably demanded some sort of compensation for allowing google to be their mapping app. of choice.
Either way monospaced is full retard.
- Lolian
- Yea, It wouldn't completely surprise me if it was google that pulled outset
- excuse me?monospaced
- He said you were full retardset
- never go full retard!SunSunSun
- benfal990
lets just hope Google will make Google Map available in the app store.
- they could charge for it at this rate.mantrakid
- you mean Apple, right?monospaced

LOL at this on GIzmodo:
"you just don't need a f*cking case for your iPhone 5. Really, you don't.
The fact is that there's no fragility excuse anymore because the iPhone 5 is made of aluminum casted by Asgardian dwarf blacksmiths and put together with magicomicronometric precision by virgin she-dragons made of living gold.
It can't break, unless you shoot it with a silver bullet at the witching hour under a full moon."- sorry wrong thread. Wanted to post it in iPhone5 threadbenfal99

Google says no plans for iOS 6 mapping app "yet"
- LOL.. and somehow now this will be Google's fault and not Apple who screwed their users.monolith

Just use other options for the time being, like Copilot or something. You don't have to stick to whatever comes out of the box, there an App Store and it's full of map apps...
