So my best mate's wife left him over the weekend. She left to go to out for an hour and never returned. He has now heard from her family that he needs to get a solicitor and its over. She is moving back to her home country. They dont have children but they do have two houses together. If he wants to talk to her, he needs to talk through the solicitor, thats it. He has not heard one word, one text from her. Not a word. This came out of nowhere and he is absolutely devastated.
How would you help your best friend get through this?

Step one: Realise what a bitch she is and cut all emitional ties. Otherwise it's gonna be a very rough ride.
Step two: Lawyer the fuck up like no tomorrow. She's clearly evil enough to try take everything
Step three: Call in Leon

So deep and dark... i feel for your boy. If was he was a nice guy (no one knows what happens behind close doors...) and this outta the blue, he needs to follow Projectille advice.

mind asking in what country did this happened? there are many turns on divorce law.
piece of advice: probably your mate gives a shit about the flats etc. as he must be in pain. make sure that whatever legal action he takes, he does it once he's in a clear state of mind.
a bad decision at this stage can drag him into something he will have to carry on dealing/paying for many years.
and I probably try to keep him away from tittie bars, ibiza, drugs in general, etc. because of the legal implications plus surely he will not enjoy it anyway...
- the in 6 months play him this

If by splitting everything in half will still leave him financially OK, then just tell him to do it and get it over with. Time to move on.
If she wants more than that...see above!

I gotta say as a woman in a marriage who's seen its fair share of ups and downs it seems that she was at a breaking point and just quit. The only 2 people who know what really is going on are the 2 people involved. Its an extreme thing to do, to just up and leave, but maybe she's in a really bad place and just didn't know what to do? There are so many variables involved here and we are obviously not getting all of the story.
I would be there for your friend and just listen and hang out with him. Sounds like a big pile of emotional shit.
- yeah. he knows what's going on, even if he is shocked by her actions. and if he doesn't know what's going on then that's the problem.sine
- ... problemsine
- your fair share of ups and downs? you've been married for a yearmonospaced
- been together for 5 years married for 1. and besides, mono, we really haven't spoken in awhile.sadpanda

my guess: she is with another man, and it has been either going on, or brewing for quiet sometime.
- highly likely, do some research...rupedixon
- leaving for someone else would screw her chances in a divorce settlement.rupedixon

just admit it, this happened to you, not your friend

shit that's shit
but sad panda is right, people don't just up and leave for no reason or a little fight unless she has some serious skitzo mental issues. But does anyone else think it sounds a bit scammy?
They have 2 house and she just decides to go back to her country,- Yeah, i mentioned above you never know what happen between two people... but if he's good... then i smell another dicknecromation

Dude.
If she wouldn't bother with even as much as an explanation, after what I assume to have been a significant amount of time spent together, I wouldn't expect to get a satisfying enough answer as to "why?". Even through a solicitor.
Perhaps she'd eventually ease up and give more answers. Perhaps not. Either way that sort of shit won't settle any time soon and that uncertainty has to be one of the more devastating things someone would have to wade through.
Sadly the only workable remedy seems to be time.
As a friend how about just being there? Half the job is simply being present. Even when it gets straining.Dust him off and introduce your friend to the world again when ready.
But don't deny any time to grieve. That's lingering future trouble.

Anyway, sounds like your wife got what she wanted. A green card and at least one vacation house. What kind of advice do you want? I don't believe it came out of nowhere. If you're so messed up you can't go to work, go get some therapy. Otherwise, what kind of help do you need getting through this that you would find on qbn?
- your wife? Excellent reading skills mono. how would you 'help your best friend get through this?'foz
- My reading skills are better than yours, you fucking asshole. I'm implying it's his wife, now fuck off.monospaced
- You can't even use a goddamn apostrophe correctly and you're criticizing ME? Wow.monospaced
- ah! you're implying that it's a 'my friend has a problem' scenario! I missed that, my bad.foz
- but why are you being such an asshole to him, and why are you so angry?foz
- hahahaha I love mono when loses his temper !sureshot
- If someone asks for help, to your face, I imagine you would never say that. So why say it on here?foz
- it's the autism, fozlocustsloth
- On apostrophes - I use single quotation marks because I am British, the rules are opposite to USA. But I am a fat fingered typist and get it wrong lots too.foz
- But I am a fat fingered typist and get it wrong lots too. Nobody is perfect.foz
- No, you used apostrophes incorrectly. Your post on the next page you use them unnecessarily twice, in one postmonospaced
- And I'm not being mean.monospaced
- Ahahahaha. This post & notes made my day. Everything else will be shitty today.CanHasQBN
- Aha! You're right, my bad. Too tired to check what I was typing. I can punctuate correctly most of the time.foz
- If you really read my post and all you came away with was two apostrophes, yet still think you were not mean...foz
- Well mono, I shall keep an open mind about you. But read your posts again, try and see how they come across.foz
- I am not swearing at you or calling you names. I am questioning your kindness though.foz
- Please don't try to cover up the fact that you insulted me first by questioning my reading comprehension.monospaced
- And I still wasn't mean.monospaced
- And if you don't see the advice I gave in this comment, then I am questioning your "reading skills" as you so crudely put itmonospaced
- What do you hope to achieve here mono? I think that your post was unkind. Do you think that you are intimidating?foz
- I'm defending myself against pricks like you who insult me at any chance they have, even without reason.monospaced
- mate I just called you out on something you said. I have no bones with you generally.foz
- when you call me names, you show that you are losing rational response, you don't intimidate me. You just look 8.foz
