Hi,
I haven't written much here but i'm a longtime stalker. That said i'm almost done with my online portfolio and i'd like to have the input of the QBNers.
Tell me what you think.
Xavier.

Nice work. Beau travail. Tu travails encore pour BBR?
- xcm0
Merci!
I'm still working for them. But not for the Montréal branch. I'm working for the Ottawa/Gatineau branch.
- k_temp0
c'est tres bien! <-- that's all i know.
Although, why did you link wikipedia's definition of graphic designer? Don't you think that someone looking at your portfolio and/or thinking of hiring you for a project knows what a graphic designer is?
- Llyod0
Good work. The site is a little boring though.
- xcm0
@ k_temp
Thanks. I did that as a joke. But you're right, i'll take it out.@ Lloyd
Thanks. Any idea of what i could do to make less boring?
- qoob0
Nice job but it seems that over half of your work is "coming soon"
I clicked on one of the top items three times before I realized why it wasn't working.

Feels like it needs a little more "life".
Few suggestions...
I see you have gray for English and black for French. I'd probably try to have a bit more contrast between them. maybe go down to #777 or #888 on the English.

The screenshot... That drop shadow is a bit too much."Designer graphique", "Graphic designer"... it feels a little weird to not see the second word capitalize. I'd change it.
Have you tried a couple of 1px horizontal lines to divide information? I get the minimalistic and grid-based direction, but the blocks of info still look like they are floating a bit without a clear separation between them.

Thanks VectorMasked
i'll try your suggestions. But when you are saying
"Have you tried a couple of 1px horizontal lines to divide information? I get the minimalistic and grid-based direction, but the blocks of info still look like they are floating a bit without a clear separation between them."
are you talking about the bigger or smaller text.
Thanks again.

I actually don't mind the sheer whiteness of it all. It's minimal to a point. The quality of the work tells me I'm dealing with a savvy designer. The "whiteness" of the site isn't a mistake. It's a statement.
The site seems to have an almost "design-less" quality so that the work can be the star of the show. It may be a bit bare without other design elements, but once I know I'm dealing with a smart designer I actually like to see chances being taken.
For touting their originality, designers are very lemming-like at times. I get tired of seeing what appears to be the same site over and over and over. This one's different.

Thanks jerkyjake!
The minimal design is, for me, ideal to show case a portfolio. The general look of my website is link to my identity look.

@xcm
I was referring to work a bit more on the spacing of information or blocks of text. It can look a little more polished with more experimentation.
For example the footer... it seems that there are 5 blocks of text. Client header, client list, up, thanks and copyright into. And this blocks seem that could be condesed a little while keeping the separation needed. For example the "client header"... it can be closer to the actual client list. After all it belongs to the same block of information. Right now you have the "go up" button closer to the client list than the client list header. You could also maybe a ad a very very light 1 pixel horizontal line to separate the "mercy and coypright info" blocks from the client list. This mercy part is the bottom most part and it is not as important as the client list or projects.
You could also reduce slightly the space from the mercy part to the bottom edge of the browsers window.
Tweaks like this could help the work stand out more as it currently has the same amount of impact as the text and could help defining what is where.

I love it, but I think it may need a narrative and/or feeling for your personality.....
nice work
nice website IF your intended audience is other graphic designers....NOTE.... do you intend on selling yourself to other graphic designers and/or creative directors? or do you intend on using this website to acquire new clients who are businesses, arts organisations, etc?
I ask because this design may intimidate some types of clients, you may want that, but I feel the need for a voice, a personality in text, writing about yourself...
- xcm0
In general my website is for people in art/design field. They're mainly the clients i work with and also the ones i enjoy the most. I do agree that the simple design could intimidate other clients, witch is not my goal.
We don't know each other, but my website is pretty true to what i am. I feel, from they other comments, that i should add a little more. To make it more interesting while keeping it simple and true to me.
In relation to what vectormasked said, the spacing is a bit tricky since the website is responsive and i'm not much of a programmer. But i'm working on it as we speak.
I'll bump the thread once i've made a big update.
Thanks alot everyone for the feedback.

Bad UI: having your title in both french and english next to each other implies that you can swap languages on your site (instead of going to the wikipedia page... why does anyone need that anyway?).
- disagree, to me, it implies a bilingual site.futuremongolian

pretty cool. Congratulations!

Dude what the fuck is this french shit?? Can't you speak american like the rest of the world??
Dumb fuck!
ps the smaller text looks odd to me. Can't describe it, almost looks like the pixels are bleeding. It only looks clean at 14px and 20px and up
- Chimp0
Overall its looking great.
Perhaps try a different rollover style for the thumbnails, where the you have a colour overlaying the image:
http://www.huntstudio.com.au/rec…At first I couldn't see the 'coming soon' so I thought the link was broken. This might just be my bad eye sight though...
- xcm0
@Projectile Since i live in canada and that i work in Montréal Gatineau and Ottawa i don't i have a choice to make it bilingual. The good thing is that i also speak american.
For the text, i heard that it because of windows not dealing well the @font-face. There isn't much i can do sadly.
@Chimp you're not the only one pointing that out. I'm working on a solution.
Thanks.
