When i first learned about it, it was called "Succubus".
and it's kinda hot.
"... a female demon appearing in dreams who takes the form of a human woman in order to seduce men, usually through sexual intercourse."

i wonder what role, if any, DMT plays in this phenomenon

i dunno if it's the same but i get this thing where I am trying to move in my dream and I can't and I feel paralyzed. And I tell myself to wake up and move but I can't. Sounds similar. It's frustrating for a second.
- yep, this is the same. not a dream though - you are actually awake when it happens.arne

MSG, some meds can give vivid dreams plus if your heart is running most likely you will have dreams that are racing also.
You should meditate more. you'll notice your a lot more in control while you rest. Most people dream because they arent in control of their mind and self.
If you havent seen dreamscape go see it
a classic

but seriously this happened to me once about 10 years ago. all i remember was something was talking to me while i was sleeping, saying shit like it wanted to take me over, i remember responding, no, get out of here, then it proceded to enter my body through my breathing and i started feeling this really intense power, then it was saying shit like "see, you will like it" and i kept trying to fight it, finally i woke up with my cat sitting on my chest as he clawed the shit out of my nose. at the time i thought he saved my ass from some demon trying to possess my ass. this all happened after watching some old mst3k episode about the devil or some shit. i still watch my mst3k collection but to this day i still havent watched that same episode again.

Happens to me, too. Scariest is when my body & voice paralyze & the bed lifts & shakes like an earthquake. Feels as real as anything else. Haven't seen anyone sitting at the edge of my bed in a while. A man & child once, and a woman the other times, never any demons.
- I saw a rotting corpse on the edge of the bed once. Woke my b.f. up trying to claw my way out of the bed.theredmasque
- and then once a black shadow figure on the edge of the bed.theredmasque

I cannot remember any dreams I had, but I remember waking up scared shitless and thinking to myself, if I just get under the bed covers it will not come for me, whatever the fuck it was. I have also died in my dreams before, and realised that I died, and then could not wake up for what seemed like for ever, that was just messed up.

happens every few weeks. i usually feel the figure over me with pressure on my chest and heavy breathing on my face. and all i can "see" is the rest of my room from the corner of my eye. weird because i automatically avoid "looking" straight up as im scared shitless to see what's above me.
trick i learned is to focus on wiggling your toes, then it frees up rest of body
- I get that limited visibility / corner of the eye thing. So odd.CanHasQBN

i remember waking up at ~3am once, staring at the wall which was covered with black tarantulas, i couldn't move for x amount of time, then finally was able to lunge up and away and realized in that moment there was nothing there. but it was real for sure if only for a few moments because I guess I dreamt that I was awake seeing it but I wasn't?
- I get something like this sometimes, except they are roaches (I loathe roaches) on the ceiling. Always wake myself up with the heebie jeebiestheredmasque

I get these more than I would like to admit.
Just as text book as has been described . One of the ugliest ones was as follows : I am dreaming I am starring at myself in front of the mirror and behind me I see a figure in bight light . I turn to see who it is but see nothing so I reach out with my hand as you would in the dark to feel around. Suddenly what I can only describe as a hefty hand with long nails grabs mine . My first reaction is to wake up but I cannot,my second is to free my hand but I cannot , what really begin to freak me out is that I could literally feel my hand being clutched by a very nasty feeling hand. I pull and pull my hand but I would not get free , I begin to mumble so that my ex could wake me up , she finally nudges me and I wake up. I grab my hand and it feels tight as if it had just been squeezed .

last week my girl woke me up 'cause i was making weird noises... in my dream i was in the same exact spot, same position, and there was a tall, shadowy figure at the foot of my bed that i felt was a vampire, looming. it didn't speak or move much, it was just this presence. i was growling at it like an animal, daring it to do something but i was woken up before anything happened. forgot about it until now...
i wonder if this is like what you guys are experiencing

i get these from time to time, and it's the inability to do something that generally freaks you out....it's like you know something horrible is waiting to happen, but you're physically unable to move...which of course is what causes the terror...
much more often for me is the lucid dreaming. I get that about every 2 weeks or so...fairly regularly...
the idea being that you suddenly know that you're in a dream...like waking up while still dreaming....i can't even describe how freaking awesome it is when this happens. talk about a holiday from reality. generally what i tend to do is fly....like you suddenly know you can basically do what you want, so 'ok..super powers!..lets fly!'...and up up and away i go.....zooming around etc...the one downside i find is that it doesn't tend to last very long....you usually get to have some fun, then something really does wake you up....but on most of those nights that i lucid dream, i've had the luck to fall back asleep and 'reclaim' the lucid dream...sometimes several times......
never happens to normal good dreams, like say, making out with some hot model type, or winning the lottery or something like that...wake up from an awesome dream like that, and you can never seem to get it back....but the lucid dreams ones.....for whatever reason, more often than not, i can just get back to sleep and turn it back on....although it happens a fair bit, it'd be nice if i understood exactly 'how' and why it happens....just to be able to do it at will.....
- I get lucid dreams from time to time as well. I love it when that happens. That being said, it usually happens during a stressful dream andtheredmasque

I use to get those a lot, specially when go through a rough week of work. The ones I got were the monster and shadows ones, but the thing is that I would also hear voices in the background. Horrible and interesting at the same time.
