The iPhone 6 will be announced in February, and the 7 in April.

I waited a year for a 4S, a slightly better camera and better processor...huh. Experienced the same disappointment waiting for the iPad2 (since these are my only Apple products).
Oh well, time to go looking at the competition.

are you pissed off it doesn't say iphone 5?
its got the ios5 which has a ton more features..... plus the camera, plus the faster processor....

the nerds complain about Apple updating their products with a new model every year... now the same idiots are furious that this is not the iPhone 5...

@formed: I hear ya. I've waited a year as well. Hoping for the 5.
I don't care what it says on the phone. What gets me is that the 5 will most likely be a major design change, which is what I was waiting for. Sure the new hardware on the 4S is neat, but I guarantee you the leap from 4S to 5, will be similar to the 3GS to 4. Which is what I've been waiting for.
- That's why I by every other release. There's just not enough incentive to buy every year.CyBrainX
- dude - i'm still rocking the 3G running iOS 3.1.3. It's been more than a year :)fugged

iPhone 4 is still pretty great considering is over a year old, the 4S is even better.

Not any different from when they upgraded from the 3G to the 3GS. I predict the next model will be something like the 4G (for when they hop onto the 4G network) and it will come out in the next few months followed by the 5 which will be about a year from now. Makes sense and follows their strategy up to now.

If the jump for 4 to 4S is anything like 3 to 3S, then it will likely be a good upgrade.
But of course, because they didn't update the case and called it 4S instead of 5, then the sky is falling. Never mind all the updates to the components and OS.

By the way. There was no iPhone 2 was there? Didn't they just jump to the 3G after the first model? Well. My point is that the name is really irrelevant and not something to be disappointed by. This is the new phone and it is the 5th iteration and it is an upgrade.

what does the "S" stand for?
i always thought the "3" or "4" had to do with the network rather than a version number or whatever

From engadget comments:
"Here's a good question.
Say you buy a 2010 Ford mustang with 300 horsepower but 2 years into a 4 year contract Ford releases a 2012 mustang with the same body, the same 2 colors but with 600 horsepower. If you trade in you lose 50% of what you paid for and and you have to pay a doc fee for the newer model. Does it really make sense to trade when 300 horsepower is enough for about 90% of what you do. And on top of that a new redesign is guaranteed for the 2013 model year.
The iphone 4S is a epic failure for the hardcore phone user. The Windows ME of phones."
