SMASH PROOF SCREENS
Why is this never mentioned as a priority?
The 3GS could last (if you were careful), but the 4S is nothing but a timebomb without a case/shell – everyone I know has either cracked one or utterly demolished it.
To require an accessory made by a third party (99.5% of which either work like shit or cost the price of a small car) is just bad design.
I don't believe they can't find a material that does this job
- Gorilla glass? The good stuff, not just from Corning, but the ballistic smash proof stuff.monospaced
- They haven't found it, but they sure as hell have synthesized itmonospaced

i have a marware case and I've dropped my 4s dozens of times on hard surfaces and such with no damage to the phone nor has the case cracked only dings and scuffs
- Without that case the phone would've smashed. Any affordable case ruins the look & feel of the phone...biusness
- ...I don't know why Apple haven't integrated smash/ scratchproof glassbiusness
- probably costmonospaced
- I've dropped my 4 on the road many times without a case, while getting out of my car. No problems yet!nb

What is the funniest part about this, its that before Apple becomes as big and popular that it is since 3 or 4 years, everyone was in love with Apple and everyone were defended Apple in any forum. Now that it has become "popular" Apple is not as cool and some are beginning to hate the brand ...
This is exactly the same thing with music ... When a group is underground, it's cool and is venerated, but as soon as it becomes popular and knows a lot of success it is automatically bad for some people.
I think some hipsters are angry because before they thought themselves superior with their Mac "made for graphics" and that their aunts now use the same Mac to watch videos of cats on the internet.
Apple is as good and cool that it was 10 years ago. End of story.

The loose-fitting, rubber covers ruin the elegance of the phone, bulk out the size, and they look like shit.
The well-made ones cost far too much, and anyway are still COVERS for an otherwise beautiful and fantastically functioning object.
Forget the resolution of the camera, forget the processor and retina crap, and concentrate on making the case and screen more durable and that is a worthwhile brief imo.
If the iphone 5 has that, it will be a massive win for Apple and negate the need for this shit....
- if you take care of your phone you dont need a case and it will stay in good condition for a long time.benfal99
- Meh. It's too slippery without a case. Haven't dropped an iPhone with case but without, well...ETM
- benfall99 has found a secret way to avoid the unexpected. If you share how to do this, you can be as rich as bill gatesMiguex
- With the 3GS yes, but the 4S has full glass front and back. No way that will survive 2 years in your pocketbiusness
- maybe iam exceptional at taking care of my stuffbenfal99

The new iPhone is supposed to have a unibody case, which means it will be thinner, lighter and STRONGER.

Leaked photos always look shit no matter what the product - though those speaker holes look terrible, it's like they're hiding all the ugly stuff on the bottom of the phone but will leave the top clean.

Folk bitching about how easy it is to crack the iphone screens by dropping it ....
... is that how you usually treat stuff that you pay £500+ for or is money no object that you can just chuck it around and not actually take care of it?

At least Apple only have one phone, that gets an upgrade every 12 months minimum.
Look at Samsung/Nokia/Sony etc. They have dozens of models, new ones of each of those coming out every few months, each upgrade of each model supposedly better than the others, then a new version of another model comes out and that is apparently suddenly the best.
Pffff... One phone. One upgrade path. Ooooooosh!

$99 for an adaptor? Let's tone down the hyperbole just a tad.
Apple currently sell entire sync cables for $19, so I'd be *very* surprised if an adaptor went for more than $10 (with 3rd party ones going for even less). One month after release, it'll be a complete non-issue.

its going to have to be amazing if they want to regain market share... something too similar to the 4/s will go down like a lead balloon
- so, short of amazing Apple is out of the phone business? puhleasemonospaced

my money is waiting for Apple. I WANT that iPhone badly. My old 3GS feels like an old Pentium III right now.
- If you nuke/reset it would it still be sluggish after a week of use? Could be designed to that way. Wouldn't surprise me.Peter
- My 3GS got speedier with iOS5 but I never went past 5.01, heard bad stories about 5.1 performance.raf
- pff i still have a 3G. jailbroken on iOS4, it runs like a slug. and yes, it does seem to clog up over time. weird.hans_glib
- 3GS here also got it on a refurbish discount $49.00 2 year contractteh
